Hamish Bowles

As both Editor in Chief of The World of Interiors and Global Editor at Large for Vogue, Hamish Bowles is recognised as one of the most respected authorities on fashion and design. After beginning as Vogue’s Style Editor in 1992, Mr. Bowles was promoted to European Editor at Large in 1995 and to International Editor at Large in 2011 – a role that includes overseeing all interior design features, writing profile stories, and covering fashion and contemporary culture, as well as the history of fashion and style. He was appointed to The World of Interiors in 2021 as only the third Editor in Chief in the title’s 41-year history. Under his editorship, the publication has expanded its digital presence and global outlook whilst retaining its uniquely wide-ranging and story-driven approach to the places people live. Mr. Bowles has acted as creative consultant and curator for a number of critically acclaimed exhibitions including 2017’s House Style: Five Centuries of Fashion at Chatsworth, which drew from the wardrobes of the historic Derbyshire house’s most famous inhabitants, among them Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire; Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy; and Deborah Mitford.

In 2016 Mr. Bowles was Special Consultant to the blockbuster film Ocean’s 8. He is Trustee of the American Ballet Theater and was Director of the prestigious Green Carpet Fashion Awards (2019, 2020). Mr. Bowles is recipient of the Legend Award by the Couture Circle of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2007), the Lighthouse International POSH Fashion Icon Award (2009) and the Pratt Institute Fashion Icon Award (2011). He has an extensive private collection of historic haute couture and culturally significant garments. He has lent pieces to exhibitions at several museums including: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
